Millie was born in Pine City on August 4, 1928. Her parents Francis and Mary Bible lived on a dairy farm west of Rock Creek. She was one of twelve children.Millie graduated from Pine City High School in 1946. After graduating from she began work in the Pine County Auditor’s office. She had a great memory and a head for figures.She married Fred Baker on April 26, 1951 and they soon moved to Portland, Oregon. They had a son born in May of 1952. The family returned to Pine City and she again took up work in the auditor’s office where she worked for 40 years.In 1964, they sold their house in town and bought a farm east of Pine City. Fred passed away in September of 1999, but she stayed on the farm until 2011.Millie loved to travel and went to Iowa, Wisconsin, Yellowstone National Park, Alaska, Hawaii, New England, and made three trips to Australia to visit her son. Fred and Millie went on fishing trips to Michigan, Manitoba, Ontario as well as northern Minnesota.Millie was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for 60 years. She was a homemakers club member and loved to play cards. She played 500 twice a month. She enjoyed friends and family functions especially Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter.She was a religious person with a positive attitude who was known to all as a happy, smiling and friendly person. She was one whose glass was never half empty, but always half full.It was necessary for her to move into Lakeside Nursing Home in 2011. She loved it there and made many friends. Mildred passed away there in her sleep on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the age of 86 years.We love you and will miss you always. Rest in peace.Millie Baker is survived by her son Duane Baker and wife Joann of Victoria, Australia, her sisters Rita Bible, Verna Carlson both of Pine City, Marian Schoeberl and her husband Jim of Alexandria, brother Leroy Bible and his wife Marlene of Hinckley, Sisters-in-law Pauline Bible, Betty Bible, Margaret Bible all of Pine City, brothers-in-law Leo Skluzacek of Pine City, Jack (Jo) Baker of Minneapolis, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents Francis & Mary (Behrendt) Bible, Siblings: Francis (Adeline) Bible, John (Avis) Bible, Robert Bible, Shirley (Don) Elfstrom, Lucille Skluzacek, Donald Bible, and Kenneth Bible.Monsignor Alexsander Suchan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial; 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (4/7/15) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned for one hour prior to the service at church and Monday evening from 4-8 pm at the Swanson Funeral Chapel with a 7 pm Rosary service. The interment will take place in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Pine City.
