Gary Lee Behrendt

Gary Lee Behrendt was born June 29, 1943 at the new Rush City Hospital. His parents were William Clifford and Della Evelyn (Lind) Behrendt. Butch was his older brother. Gary attended Rush City High School and graduated in 1961. Gary married Myra “Joan” Mallinger in 1964. They were married at First Lutheran Church in Rush City. They had two children, David Lee born in 1965 and Jody Lynn in 1969. The family resided on a farm near Rush City until 1996. At that time, they moved their house to the Lind Home Farm. Gary was a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge # 64, Shriners International, Rush City Jaycees, and the East Central Shrine Club. His favorite past time was farming with his brother Butch and his shadow, son David. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his brother-in-laws, Joe and Roland. In retirement, he loved to do carpentry work, spend time with the grandchildren and visit with friends. Gary was known as a loyal man that would do anything to help family or a friend; all you had to do was ask. Gary worked construction until 1966, when he was hired at United Parcel Service. Gary enjoyed working at UPS for 31 years. Gary passed away at his home on April 4, 2015 after spending the day with his grandchildren coloring Easter eggs and enjoying his favorite meal. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving Gary is his wife Joan, son David (Julie) Behrendt and daughter Jody (Rick) Friday all of Rush City, his grandchildren: Amanda, Jeremiah, Zach, Jami, Bailey, Beau, Jacob, and Samuel, uncle Wilmer Lind, mother-in-law Carrie Mallinger, and many extended family members. Gary is preceded in death by his parents Cliff and Della Behrendt and his brother Butch Behrendt. Rev. Laurie O'Shea will officiate Gary's funeral service; 1 pm thursday (4/9/15) at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned for Wednesday evening from 4-8 p.m.concluding with a Masonic Service @ 7:30 p.m. all happening at the Olson Chapel in Rush City. The interment is planned in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City.
