Roger "Louie" Duane Lutroe

July 3, 1939 — August 30, 2015

Roger “Louie” Lutroe of Rush City passed away unexpectedly at his home in Rush City, Sunday (8/30/2015) at the age of 76 years. Roger Duane Lutroe was born on July 3, 1939 in Emmetsburg, IA, to John Jr. and Geneva "Sally" (Bobo) Lutroe. He grew up in Rush City, attending and graduating from Rush City High School. Roger served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 4 from 1963 to 1965 stationed in Alaska. He was there during the Great Alaskan Earthquake of 1964. He was in the NCO Club when the earthquake hit and said it was quite an experience! In his earlier years, Roger enjoyed many fishing and hunting trips with uncles and brothers-in-law. He earned his pilot’s license and spent many hours flying. He would come out to the Rush City Airport and give his family rides. He enjoyed riding his baby blue Harley Davidson motorcycle and was very proud of his 1966 Seven Liter Ford car. Roger and Judy (Lundberg) Behrendt were married September 3, 1983; 32 years this September. A proud member of the Operating/Engineers Local 49 Union, Roger worked as a welder and heavy machine mechanic for many years until he was injured at work and had to take an early retirement. Judy suffered several strokes but he was able to take care of her at home until she fell and broke her hip. At that time she entered Golden Living Center in Rush City and Roger was very faithful in visiting her almost every day; staying all afternoon. He brought her to many family luncheons at the casino. Roger was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and a life member of the Rush City American Legion and Rush City Eagles. Roger is survived by his wife, Judy; his sisters: Dorothy Kliegle of Stillwater; Violet (Jerry) Pearson of Cambridge; Sally (Gene) Carlson of Rush City; and Susan (Scott) Synstegaard of Roseville; step-children Dan (Denise) Behrendt of Rush City; Richard (Kim) Behrendt of Askov; grandchildren Nick, Sarah, Ashley and Rhiannon Behrendt and Courtney Larsen, great grandson Brayden; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Sally Lutroe; sisters Lois Lutroe, Martha Johnson; brothers-in-law Warren Johnson ,Robert Kliegle; two nieces and two nephews. Pastor Laurie O’Shea will officiate a celebration of Roger’s life, 11:00 AM Friday (9/4/2015) at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City. A time of visitation is planned for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will take place in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City with Military Honors provided by the Rush City American Legion, Grothe-Jacobson VFW and the Minnesota National Guard.
