Marvin George Tollefson of Pine City passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the age of 84.
Marvin was born on July 30, 1931 in Frost, MN to Peter and Ida (Sandness) Tollefson, the youngest of eight children. Growing up, Marvin went to country schools and worked on the family farm in Beroun. In 1952, at the age of 21, he was drafted to the United States Army. He served overseas in Gelenhausen, Germany until 1954.
Upon arriving back in the United States, Marvin worked at the family farm and for Floyd Anderson Cattle Buyers. He also worked at Land O’ Lakes, first in Mora making ice cream and then in Pine City making butter. The butter won 1st place at the Minnesota State Fair twice during the 1960’s. In addition to his regular employment, he often did lawn mowing and yard tilling on the side.
On May 18, 1957, Marvin was united in marriage to Annabel H. Muellner of Rush City at the Immaculate Conception Church of Pine City. After marriage they lived in Beroun. In 1963 they built a house in Pine City where they raised their four children, Mitchell, Mary, Ronald and Kevin. Marvin then worked 24 years for the Pine City High School.
Marvin enjoyed playing the accordion, auctioneering, collecting antiques and spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much joy.
Marvin is survived by his dedicated wife of 58 years, Annabel. His children, Mitchell (Kris) Tollefson, Mary (Ray) Stafford, Ronald Tollefson, and Kevin Tollefson, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Ida Tollefson, sisters Selma (Arthur) Ovik, Alice (Rufus) Muncy, brothers Lawrence (Ruth), Clarence, Pelmer (Angeline), Orville and Maynard (Joanne) Tollefson.
Deacon Gene Biever officiated the funeral service for Marvin Tollefson on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. Music was provided by Paul Bacigalupi and Ed Pangerl. Casket bearers were: Kacy Deschene, Sarah Glorvigen, Michelle Jordan, Rachael Stafford, Dusty Rarick, Justin Tollefson and JoVonna Leske. Interment took place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Pine City with military honors provided by Heath-Perkins American Legion Post #51, Novak-Milliren VFW Post #4258, and Minnesota National Guard.
