Allen Carl Ramberg

January 5, 1924 — October 29, 2015

Allen Ramberg of Pine City passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the age 91. Allen Carl Ramberg was born to Henry Olof and Julia (Wredberg) Ramberg on January 5, 1924 in Harris, MN. He was the oldest of thirteen children. Allen attended the Brickyard School in Rush City for five and a half years; then Harris and Peaceful Valley Schools until the eighth grade. For many years Allen worked for local farmers. He considered his best years farming out, when he worked for Otto and Louie Farenholtz of Rush City prior to his military service. Allen served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950-52; stationed in Japan for seventeen months. After returning to the states, Allen started courting Mary Ann Jacobs. They were married November 19, 1955 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN. From this union five children were born; daughters Kathleen Mary, Karen Joy, Lynn Marie, Nancy Ann and son Robert Allen. They made their first home in Harris and lived there for ten years. Allen worked for Minneapolis Moline until they closed, then worked twenty-five years for Land O'Lakes in Minneapolis. At the same time Allen continued to farm down on the "Sand" teaching his children the value of hard work. Allen purchased a hobby farm in Rush City where they lived for nineteen years. He finally had his own little farm and enjoyed tilling fields, raising beef cattle, pigs and some chickens. Upon retirement, they decided to move to California where they lived for nine plus years where Allen worked part time. He and Mary enjoyed the beautiful weather and farm country in and around Oxnard. They had many wonderful drives in the California countryside and enjoyed visitors from Minnesota so they could share their favorite places; like Solvang and the Ventura Marina. One special remembrance is a trip in Mike Swanson's motor home up to northern California to see the Red Woods, Yosemite National Park and San Francisco. Deciding it was time to move back home to Minnesota, they moved to Pine Terrace Mobile Home Park. April of 2008 saw the couple move to a senior apartment complex in Pine City. Allen continued to "farm" by tending to a huge garden at his daughter Nancy's. He loved to share all his vegetables and did a lot of canning with Mary. Allen always made sure to keep his priorities straight: Faith in God, Love of Family, and his tractor. Allen and Mary became members of Immaculate Conception Church in Pine City and enjoyed making friends through bible studies and Adoration. Allen felt very blessed to have his beautiful wife of almost sixty years by his side and the love of his children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anytime he saw his grandchildren or great grandchildren he had a big smile on his face. In photos, you would see the love he had for them expressed in that grin. This hard working, gentle, loving man will be forever missed; he left us with such wonderful memories that we will cherish forever in our hearts. Allen is survived by his wife Mary of Pine City, children Kathy (Chuck) Mohr of Pine City, Karen (Steve) Sjoblom of Brook Park, Lynn Auchi and Timothy Wood of Grantsburg, Nancy (Klaus) Rechelbacher of Rock Creek, Robert (Melissa) Ramberg of Mora, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, siblings Carroll (Muriel) Ramberg of North Branch, Betty Krysinski of North Branch, Gladys (Keith) Falk of Harris, Katie (Loren) Anderson of Grasston, Russell (Judy) Ramberg of North Branch, Lyle (Carol) Ramberg of Harris, Donna Lind of Rush City, and sister-in-law Sharon Ramberg of North Branch. Allen is preceded in death by his parents Henry & Julia (Wredberg) Ramberg, siblings Violet Lueth, Joyce Anderson, Donald Ramberg, Jon Ramberg and Marvin Ramberg. Memorials may be donated to St. Mary's School, Pine City, Minnesota in Allen's memory. Monsignor Aleksander Suchan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Allen Ramberg; Tuesday, November 3, 2015, 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. A time of visitation and reviewal is scheduled for Monday evening 4:00-7:00 PM at the Swanson Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rush City.
