Lawrence "Larry" Zeney

Lawrence “Larry” William Zeney, age 89, of Mora, formerly of Pine City, died Sunday March 8th at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora.  Larry was born on January 19th, 1920 in Minneapolis.  He was raised by parents Frank & Grace Zeney.  Larry attended grade school and Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis.  He played football, priding himself on his quarterback skills, and also participated in amateur boxing.  Larry then entered the U.S. Army serving for 4 years.  He then married Gloria Swanson from Hastings, MN, and to this union 6 children were born.   After forty years of working for the railroad as a switchman, Larry and his wife Sylvia Lange moved to Arizona.  During their time in Arizona, Sylvia passed away.  Later, Larry married Madelyn Doran of Rock Creek and in 1992 they made their home in Rock Creek.  Due to declining health, Larry and Madelyn sold the homestead and moved to Mora to be closer to family.   Larry is survived by wife Madelyn; children Roseanne Engel of Park Rapids, Donna (Lou) Lindstrom of Plymouth, Jim (Judy) Zeney of Minneapolis, Frank (Bin Bin) Shang of San Diego, CA, Jerry (Cindy) Zeney, and John Zeney both of Park Rapids; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even great great grandchildren; special niece Renae (Gary) Klein of Mora, and nephew Jay (Janie) Corrier of Rush City, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and friends.  Memorial Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13th at the Swanson Funeral Chapel of Pine City with Pastor Harry Lichy officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment will be at the Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City.  Arrangements are with the Swanson Funeral Chapel of Pine City.
