Glenda Dale Penhiter, age 65, died Wednesday evening, March 4th at her home in Brook Park Township. Glenda was born on May 12th, 1943 in Falls City, Nebraska to Dale and Bernice (Sutter) Ankrom. She was the oldest of three daughters. Glenda played violin in the orchestra in high school and enjoyed music of all kinds, her favorite being Elvis.
In 1965, Glenda married George “Bud” Penhiter and to this union 4 children were born. They also made room for Tammi Ivey as another daughter in their lives. Glenda was very involved in her children’s lives as they were growing up. She volunteered with the Boy Scouts as a Cub Scout leader and went on to become a member of the Scout Council. Bud and Glenda owned and operated the “Uptown Ovens” bakery in Minneapolis for a time before moving up to Brook Park. Here they started their own woodworking shop called “Little Dreams”, where they made country furniture and doll furniture for wholesale. Bud and Glenda stopped their woodworking when Bud became sick. Glenda will be missed greatly and loved by those who knew her.
Glenda is survived by her daughters Dawna (John) Deglman, Tammi Ivey, Lorrie Penhiter, all of Hinckley, Jeannette (Calvin) Nyman of Nebraska, and son Antony Penhiter of Brook Park; grandchildren Micheal, Nathan, Elizabeth, Brittney, Kathryn, Mikel, and Crystal; father Dale Ankrom of Nebraska; sister Terri Shadley of Missouri; sisters-in-law Dorothy (Art) Teiden of Laporte, Pat Erickson of Bemidji, and Ruth Mettler of Springfield, IL; step-sister Joyce Moschak of Hinckley; and beloved dog Bear Bear. Glenda was preceded in death by her husband George, mother Bernice, and sister Sondra.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 10th with Pastor Lyn Sahr officiating at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. Interment was held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements were with the Swanson Funeral Chapel of Pine City.
