Sylvia Vaughn peacefully passed away at the Villages of North Branch on March 2, 2009 due to heart failure conditions.
Sylvia Marie Vaughn was born on March 26, 1915 in New Brighton, MN to Albert and Mary (Lindguist) Swanson. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Morris Vaughn, sister Mildred and husband Lloyd Peterson, sister Evelyn and husband Milton Strelow, father-in-law and mother-in-law Alex and Sedona Vaughn, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenneth and Evelyn Vaughn and brothers-in-law Darrel and Stuart Vaughn. Sylvia's mother passed away when she was a young girl, so the girls were raised by her father who never re-married. The family moved to Turlock, CA for a period of time, but returned to live on a small farm south of Grandy, MN, where the girls grew to womanhood.
Sylvia married Morris Vaughn on August 15, 1934 and lived in Rush City, MN where their son Alan was born on October 21, 1937. Sylvia was an excellent homemaker and also worked as a housekeeper, waitress, retail clerk and worked in the Vaughn family gravel business. Sylvia is remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, cook/baker, caregiver, family member and friend to many. She was a serious person who was generous and gracious.
Sylvia and Morris moved to the Twin Cities in 1959 where they worked and lived in numerous areas until 1992, when they moved into their townhouse in North Branch to be near their son Alan and family. Sylvia cared for Morris until his death in 1997. Shortly thereafter she moved into the senior housing at Shields Plaza in North Branch where she resided until 2007, when she moved to the new assisted living apartments at the Villages of North Branch. Sylvia's new surroundings provided her with the independence and daily assistance that she needed. The excellent care of the staff and visits by her family and close friends provided her with comfort and the best possible quality of life possible during
her final days.
Sylvia is survived by her son Alan Vaughn of Baudette, his ex-wife Mary Jo Vaughn of North Branch, grandson Kris Vaughn and wife Paula of North Branch, great grandson Erik Vaughn, great granddaughter Cassie Vaughn, sister-in-law Betty Vaughn of Golden Valley, numerous nephews, their spouses and families, special friends Maxine Gelbmann, Millie Lewis, Phyllis Keating and numerous others.
Pastor Dick Peterson will officiate at a memorial service/celebration of Sylvia's 94th birthday; March 26, 2009, 4 p.m. in the Chapel at the Villages of North Branch. Music will be provided by Phyllis Keating. Alan and Kris invite all family members and friends who wish to attend this celebration of Sylvia's life to join us from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday.
To all of you who have provided Sylvia with love, care and companionship over her nearly 94 years of life, we thank you and want you to know how much it has been appreciated.
