Robert Glen Schwab

July 14, 1925 — March 22, 2009

Robert Glen Schwab, the son of David and Violet (Erickson) Schwab was born July 14, 1925 at Saint Francis, Minnesota and grew up on the family farm. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany and France. He drove an artillery vehicle in the battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe and received several medals prior to receiving his honorable discharge in Washington D. C. in 1951. At that time he had served two tours of duty. Upon his return to civilian life, Robert settled for a time in Iowa. He married and fathered two sons, Glen and Lee. Later he moved to Minnesota where he met his present wife, Judy, who he married on May 10, 1974. They made their home in Minneapolis and Robert worked as a truck driver. In later years he required three open heart surgeries and consequently retired following the final one. At that point he and Judy moved to their retirement home near Pine City, Minnesota. Robert was very adept at working with his hands and enjoyed remodeling projects and woodworking. He loved to fish and garden and was one of the best pickle makers for miles around. He especially loved his family and friends and had a special loved of children, his pets, and nature. He was a great influence in the lives of his nieces, Kim and Kris, and other close family members. Their home was a popular place for his family to be on weekends where they told funny stories, danced around the bonfire, and shared special memories. Robert’s sense of humor kept him going in the best and the worst of times and he had many memories and stories to share. Robert died at Kanabec Hospital in Mora, Minnesota on March 22, 2009 at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his wife, Judith of Grasston, MN; his son: Lee Schwab of Waterloo, IA; two grandchildren; sister: Phyllis Sylvester of New Brighton, MN; brother: Wally (Lorraine) Schwab of Columbia Heights, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Glen, parents David and Violet Schwab, and brothers James, Ralph, and Lawrence Schwab. Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City with the Reverend Vicki VanderVegt officiating. A gathering of friends will take place 1 hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Swanson Funeral Chapel of Pine City.
