RUSH CITY EDUCATOR; Milfred “Fredi” Moulton of Rush City went home to be with the Lord on December 7, 2015 at the age of 87 years.
Milfred “Fredi” Moulton was born to Norwegian immigrant parents, Ingvald and Olga Underland, February 9, 1928 in Elkton, South Dakota. Milfe, as she was called then, was the third of five children and the only girl. In search of better farmland and a larger community of fellow Norwegians, the Underlands moved to the Sacred Heart area in 1931. Milfe attended the neighborhood’s one-room school, climbed the windmill, and assisted her mother in all of the household chores. With aspirations of one day being a teacher in her own one-room school, Fredi attended high school.
As a woman of faith, Fredi decided to learn more at North Central Bible College where she attended classes for one year. She supported herself by working as a nursing assistant in the nearby hospital. Fredi then attended St. Cloud Teacher’s College where she earned her two year teaching degree. Recruited by the Rush City Schools superintendent, Fredi came to Rush City, Minnesota in 1949 as an elementary school teacher. She met Duane Moulton of Rush City just one week before she left to take another teaching job in Albert Lea.After a long-distance courtship, Duane and Fredi wed on August 9, 1952. To this union were born four children: Marlene, Brad, Mark, and Greg. During their childhood, Fredi returned to teaching in the Rush City Elementary school to augment Duane’s farm income. She also returned to school part-time and completed her four year degree. At the time of her retirement in 1990, Fredi had taught 31 years. In addition to her devotion to the education of children, Fredi loved to garden and practice the art of hospitality.
She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and had great affection for her relatives still in Norway whom she visited twice. Fredi spent time each day in prayer for her children, her family, and others. She demonstrated her faith in many other ways, serving in numerous roles in the Rush City Baptist Church and the Gideons.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Duane Moulton of Rush City; her children Marlene (Jerry) Janssen of Rush City, Brad (Betty) Moulton of St. Joseph, Mark (Nancy) Moulton of Rush City, and Greg (Nancy) Moulton of Minnetonka; her grandchildren David (Briana) Janssen, Kevin Mies, Bradley Mies, Andrew (Randi) Moulton, Luke (Whitney) Moulton, Ben Moulton, J.D.
