Richard Francis Fetzer was born in Plum City, Wisconsin, January 8, 1937; the same birthday as Elvis Presley; which he often mentioned.
He spent his youth on the family farm, attending grade school at Lincoln Country School, graduating from Ellsworth High School. He left Plum City in 1955 for Minneapolis to seek a degree in business from the Minneapolis School of Business. He worked as an accountant, then at Honeywell, but his first love was always farming.
In 1984, he realized his dream to own a farm when he moved to a farm southeast of Rush City, Minnesota. He added to the size of the farm, for a total of 156 acres. In late 2015, deciding that he needed fewer acres to farm, they moved to Willow River, Minnesota where he continued to farm on a smaller scale. It was here that he passed away; January 1, 2016, a week short of his 79th birthday, doing what he loved...working on his machinery.
God and his religion were important to him and he attended services every Sunday.
He was a member of the NRA. He loved wildlife and fed birds, rabbits, turkeys, and anything else that came to the farm for a handout. In his later years, he came to deplore hunting and had no trouble letting anyone who came to the farm with the intent to hunt, know that they were not welcome. He also enjoyed going to the casino for their buffet lunch.
He married his high school sweetheart Bonnie Barbara Fox in 1956. Together they had two children, David Brian and Cheryl Denise. In 1984, Richard married Carol Jean Tisdel. They had a son Jeffrey Richard.
He is survived by his wife Carol; children Cheryl Fetzer of Minneapolis and Jeffrey Fetzer of Los Angeles, CA; sister Mary (Robert) Baker of Ellsworth, WI, brother James (Sharon) Fetzer of Maiden Rock, WI; Bonnie Fetzer of Minneapolis; sisters in law Karen Schmid of Baxter, and Penny (Larry) Anderson of Walker; many aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends; and his beloved rescue cats.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Marie (Lundgren) Fetzer; his son David Fetzer; his grandson Corey Brian Fetzer, brother Larry Fetzer and his brother in law Gary Schmid.
He mattered and is loved and so missed by his family.
Services are pending at this time. Burial will take place in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Plum City, WI.
