Ed Siegel of Rush City, also known as "Fast Eddie" died Wednesday April 15, 2009 at his home in Harris, MN. at the age of 95 years.
Edwin John Siegel was born on February 28, 1914, in Cass County, Minnesota, to Gus and Selma (Lidtke) Siegel. The Siegel family then moved to the Sebeka area when Ed was an infant.
Ed was involved in farming, worked for the dray line, and road construction. He worked for Land O’Lakes and retired from there in 1976.
Ed married Marie Pickar and from this union two children, Georgia and Lee, were born. He later married Hilda (Hoyhtya) Mattson. They had one child, Vicky Jo. Ed and Hilda moved to Perham in the 1970’s and lived there until Hilda’s death in 1986. Ed then moved to Rush City, where he has lived since.
Edwin is preceded in death by his parents; wife Hilda; son Lee Siegel; daughter Vicky Jo Peacock; brothers: Albert, Robert, Paul, Louis, and George; sisters: Edna, Anna, Ruth, and Pauline; step-daughter Jeanette Frome; and special friend Mildred Corrier. He is survived by daughter Georgia (Don) Cornelius of Sebeka; grandchildren: Danelle Flemino of Rush City, Nicole (Dale) Kirchoff of Harris, and Nathan (Joanna) Peacock of Rock Creek; step-daughters: Vida (Earl) Tieg of Longview, WA, Carol (Joe) Swentek of Underwood, MN; step-son Delmer (Janette) Mattson of Rolla, ND; sisters: Helen Lamont of Bluffton, MN, and Ruth Sorenson of Issaquah, WA; as well as many great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
A time of gathering was held from 5 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 21st, at the Olson Funeral Chapel of Rush City. A graveside service is set for 1:00 p.m. ~ Saturday, April 25th, at the Greenhill Cemetery in Sebeka, Minnesota. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Funeral & Cremation Service ~ Olson Chapel in Rush City.
