Mary Jo Caroon

Mary Jo Caroon passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul at the age 50. She was born February 8, 1966, in Hibbing, Minnesota to George and Mary (Kennedy) Caroon. After graduation from Hibbing High School in 1984, she attended Hibbing Technical College. She lived and worked in New York for a time where she met and married James Buttgereit in 1990. They made their home in Braham, Minnesota, but were later divorced. Recently Mary Jo attended Pine Technical College where she studied Early Childhood Development/Education. At the time of her death she was happily employed at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Pine City childcare and school age childcare programs. She was an accomplished seamstress and excellent baker. She was a selfless caregiver for her late mother. She loved and cherished her beautiful daughters. Mary Jo is survived by her two daughters, Danielle Buttgereit of Cambridge and Georgia Buttgereit of Cambridge; four brothers, Darryl (Debra) Caroon of Swan Lake, Duane (Cindy) Caroon of Hibbing, Matt Caroon of Grantsburg, WI, Daniel (Debbie) Caroon of Hibbing; four sisters, Sharon (Terry) Hedberg of Coon Rapids, Kathy Dahl of Grantsburg, WI, Jamie (Kevin) Liukkonen of Apple Valley, and Jennifer (David) Rogers of Lanesboro, former husband and father of surviving daughters James Buttgereit, many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and infant brother James Caroon. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred for the future education of Mary Jo’s daughters Danielle Buttgereit and Georgia Buttgereit. Deacon Gene Biever will officiate funeral services for Mary Jo: 10:30 AM Friday, (3/4/16) at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Pine City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned for 5-8:00 PM Thursday at the Swanson Funeral Chapel with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service and one hour prior to funeral at the church. Interment will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, (3/6/16) at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, Minnesota. She will be buried next to her loving mother.
