Doris Louise Orvis

Doris Louise Orvis passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Stephen’s Residence in Minnetonka at the age of 74 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Doris was born into this world as Doris Louise Gruba on March 6th, 1942 to parents Joseph and Harriet (Vaillancourt) Gruba, in a small farm house in Oak Park, MN. Doris grew up in Foley, MN where she attended Foley Elementary and Foley High School. She resided in Foley until marrying Robert Eugene Orvis in the fall of 1959 and remained married to him until his passing in the fall of 1967; Doris never remarried. Doris mainly had the occupation of taking care of her 6 children but worked other varying jobs such as CNA and housekeeper. She loved her plants and gardening, as well as watching her birds at her bird feeders. Doris was also a caretaker. She always had a need to take care of everyone around her whether it be family, friends, co-workers and even strangers. Above all, Doris was a joker. She loved giving people a hard time and making others laugh. She was well known for her catch phrases and you can still hear them today, repeated by her children. Doris survived by her children: Eugene Orvis of Pine City, Patrick (Roxanne) Orvis of Hinckley, Robin Orvis of Minneapolis, Joseph Orvis of Northeast Minneapolis, Michael Orvis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Therese (Chad) Sivigny of Pine City, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, Aunt Delores (Vaillancourt) Roback, many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Gruba & Harriet (Gruba) Solt husband Robert, sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy (Marcel) Helmin and Delphine (John) Norell. Deacon Gene Biever will officiate memorial services for Doris: 2:00 PM Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. A time of visitation is planned for Friday evening 5-8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service all at the chapel.
