Gerald Thomas Bergin

May 5, 1933 — June 21, 2016

Gerald (Jerry) Bergin of Isanti, formerly of Blaine, Minnesota, Cushing, Wisconsin and Cambridge Minnesota, passed away at Solbakken Inc. Assisted Living in Isanti on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Gerald Thomas Bergin was born May 5, 1933 in Grantsburg, Wisconsin; he was the fourth of eight children born to Melvin (John) and Isabel (Anderson) Bergin. Jerry grew up in Grantsburg and attended the local schools. In 1952, Jerry saw Clarice at the Moulton tent skating rink in Rush City MN. Jerry was with his buddies and told them, “see that girl? I’m going to marry her someday.” On October 11, 1953 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Clarice (Larson) and together they raised seven children in Blaine; Janis Jeanette, GerryAnn, Bradley Gene, Glen Allyn, Vicky Lynn, Troy James and Daniel Dean. An avid Vikings fan, Jerry loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting with his family and friends; and introduced many young people to the sport. Other hobbies included working in the woods, attending country music concerts and home projects. You could always find Jerry watching his cowboy movies or NASCAR racing. Jerry was always there with a helping hand and always willing to help out the underdogs in life. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and he was a lifetime member of Roofers local #96 union; retiring in 1998. Jerry is survived by his children Jan (LeRoy) Schwab of Cambridge, GerryAnn (Warren) Stock of Oak Grove, Brad (Pam Mix) Bergin of Cambridge, Glen (Donna) Bergin of Sunrise, Vicky (Mark) Zaiser of Isanti, Troy Bergin of Coon Rapids, Dan (Kristine) Bergin of St. Michael, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brother Charlie (JoAnn) Bergin of Montrose, brothers-in-law Arnie (Pat) Larson of North Branch, Clarence (Audrey) Larson of Rush City, Gordon Marth of Hancock, sisters-in-law Marilyn Bergin of Nashville TN, Marion Bendickson of East Bethel, Della Nelson of North Branch, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin (John) and Isabel Bergin, wife Clarice Bergin, brothers Jack & Gary Bergin, sisters Audrey Marth, Lenore & Elizabeth Bergin, brothers-in-law Rudy and Kenny Larson, Kermit Bendickson, Warren Nelson, sisters-in-law Millie Bergin, Peggy, Carly and Evelyn Larson. Father Robert Nygaard will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 AM Friday, July 1, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City. Music will be provided by Cathi Hendren. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned from 5-8 PM Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City and one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will take place at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City. A special thank you goes to the caregivers at Solbakken for their loving care and support. Memorial designations may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. Say not in grief “he is no more” but live in thankfulness “that he was.” Funeral arrangements for Gerald (Jerry) Bergin are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City-Olson Chapel www.funeralandcremationservice.com
