Robert “Bob” Booth of Rush City passed away at Parmly LifePointes in Chisago City on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the age of 89.
Robert Harold Booth was born on August 26, 1926 to Harold and Leone (Else) Booth in Fairmont, Minnesota. Bob’s family moved from Fairmont to the Rush City area in the mid-1930’s, where he attended the Rush City Schools, graduating in 1945.
Bob married Angeline Sorensen on August 13, 1950 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights. In September of that year, Bob entered the U.S. Army, which included an extended tour in the Korean War. When he returned in 1952, they lived in an apartment in north Minneapolis before moving to Rush City in 1953. In 1955, Bob and Angie purchased the house they lived in for their entire married life.
Bob worked at the Rush City Creamery and then ran the Standard Oil bulk delivery business, which delivered gasoline, oil, fuel oil and diesel to farms, residences and many large construction projects. In 1963, he purchased a semi-tractor from Schneider Chevrolet and began his truck driving career with World-Wide, which delivered goods to Holiday Stores throughout the region, until his retirement.
Both Bob and Angie were involved in the Minnesota Cushman Club. The couple could often be seen riding there matching Cushman Eagle motorbikes together on Highway 61 and around town. They attended Cushman conventions in Iowa, Missouri, Wyoming and trips to the Black Hills. Bob also purchased a Cushman “Truckster” and was seen by many as he drove around Rush City, especially to 3:00 coffee and the Bakery.
Bob was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church which included many years as an “early service” usher. Bob was also active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Rush Point Leisure Club and a member of the Rush City American Legion Post 93 since 1952. He also enjoyed fishing, lawn mowing, snow removal and coffee time at the Grant House and the Bakery.
In 2009, Bob and Angie were recipients of the Chisago County Outstanding Senior Citizen award. This award is sponsored by the Minnesota Board on Aging, the Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Federation of County Fairs and bestowed upon seniors who volunteer their time and energy after age 65.
