Stuart "Sonny" Auers

Stuart “Sonny” Auers, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at his home in Grasston, Minnesota on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the age of 64. Stuart Paul Auers was born to Stuart and Evangeline Auers on July 13, 1952 in Pine City, Minnesota. He graduated from Pine City High School in 1970. From there he went on to obtain his two-year degree in Animal Production from the University of Minnesota-Crookston and in 1975 graduated with a Bachelors degree in Agriculture from North Dakota State University. He joined the Peace Corps in 1976 and traveled to Ecuador where he met Maria Velez. Sonny and Maria were married in Ecuador and in 1978 they moved to the Auers family farm in Grasston, Minnesota. Sonny helped his dad on the farm while also working for Land O’ Lakes. They became parents to Rita in 1978 and Stuart in 1979. Sonny took over the farm after the passing of his father in 1980. In 2005 he became a grandfather to Emily and in 2013 his second granddaughter Ruby was born. Sonny was hard working, always looking at ways he could better the farm. He was looking forward to retiring and being able to travel back to Ecuador and San Diego to spend time with his family. He enjoyed hunting, reading, and talking to people. Most of all, Sonny loved his family. He was with his family when he left this world. Sonny is survived by his mother Vangie Auers of Pine City, son Andy (Sonia) Auers of Isanti, daughter Rita (Robert) Cucurull of San Diego, CA, granddaughters Emily Auers and Ruby Cucurull; siblings Angela Thompson of Rush City, Craig (Penny) Auers of Bloomington, Ann (Lannie) Logan of Louisville, KT, Arle (Jorge) Chambers of Harris, Corey Auers of Grasston, Amy (Daryl) Willert of Grasston, Christopher Auers of Grasston, Mary (Jim) Hatz of Pine City, Daniel Auers of Grasston, Melissa (Robert) Ramberg of Mora, Michelle (Jesse) Mohr of Stacy; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Stuart Auers, Sr., and niece Haley Auers. Monsignor Alexsander Suchan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Sonny Auers at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned for Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 5-8:00 PM at the Swanson Funeral Chapel and also one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Pine City.
