Duane William Flanum of Finlayson passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at his home at the age of 75.
Duane was born to Lloyd and Doris (Legrid) Flanum on June 22, 1941 in Deer Park, Wisconsin. He attended elementary and high school in Wisconsin, graduating from Amery High School in 1959. After high school, he studied accounting and graduated from Globe Business College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Duane held many accounting positions in the Twin Cities area; Morton Sausage Company, Crane Supply Company, Ellerbe Architects and Major Tire Company.
In 1960, Duane joined the United States Army stationed at Fort Leonard wood, Missouri for basic training. He was trained in communications at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He later was stationed in Korea, in a communications shack, which was very close to the DMZ for 13 months.
Duane loved to travel and spent many memorable vacations traveling with his siblings visiting relatives in; Arizona, California, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Tennessee and Florida.
Duane is survived by his sister Lorraine O'Neil of St. Paul, brother Arvid (Ramona) Flanum of New Richmond, Wisconsin, sister-in-law Lucille Flanum of Annandale, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd & Doris Flanum, sisters Phyllis (Donald) Wiseman, Jean (Robert) Kaluza, brother Lloyd H. Flanum, and brother-in-law Eugene O'Neil.
Funeral services for Duane will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel. A time of visitation is planned for one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment with military honors will take place at East Immanuel Cemetery in Amery, Wisconsin at a later date.
