January 28, 1948 — September 14, 2016

Frankie "Mike" Albin Shermer passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at his home at the age of 68. Mike was born on January 28, 1948 to Frank and Evelyn (Martini) Shermer in Rush City, Minnesota. In 1965, after attending different schools, Mike enlisted in the United States Navy. During a portion of his enlisted years he was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In 1969, he transferred to the Naval Reserve and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1971. He met the love of his life Mary Stevens; they were married on November 22, 1969. They made their home and raised their two children on their farm; Mike loved his family and farming. He had a great love for animals, especially horses; sometimes his family wondered which he loved more; them or the horses. He also worked construction for many years. When Mike wasn’t farming or working construction he loved to go fishing and hunting. He was an excellent cook, loved desserts and at times was just a bit bossy in the kitchen. Mike and Mary also enjoyed making memories road tripping. Mike was a very kind and caring man, always happy even when he was hurting. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years Mary Shermer of Rock Creek, children; Loretta (Howard) Anderson of Rock Creek, and Brad Shermer of Rock Creek, grandchildren: Rene Hanson, Cody Hanson, Breanna Shermer, sister Donna Henderson of Pine City, sisters-in-law; Carolyn Shermer of Siren, WI, Joanie Shermer of Rock Creek, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
