Irene Agnes Kick

October 4, 1921 — September 28, 2016

Irene Kick passed away at Golden Horizons Care Center in Pine City on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the age of 94. Irene Agnes Bombard was born October 4, 1921 to Earl and Agnes (Peterson) Bombard in Henriette, Minnesota. As a child, Irene attended schools in Groningen, Sandstone and graduated from Pine City High School in 1939. After graduation she worked at the 61 Way Café in Pine City for 2 years. Irene was active in 4-H both as a child and later in her adult years as a leader. At the age of 15, she met her future husband Waldo Kick at one of those 4-H meetings. Irene and Waldo were married on April 11, 1944 during one of Waldo’s WWII furloughs from the Army. Nine months later while Waldo was in heavy combat at the “Battle of the Bulge” their son Dennis was born. Upon Waldo’s return from Germany the couple started farming near West Rock, Minnesota, then later moved to a farm east of Pine City. Soon they were blessed with a second son Duane and later a daughter Wendy. Farming continued and as years passed, the couple decided to put their farm land into plantation trees. The hardwood trees from the farm and the plantation trees would later be the source of the lumber that the family would use to build a new home on Cross Lake, east of Pine City where Irene lived for the next 53 years. Irene was very patriotic with a strong love for her country and the soldiers who served. Her hobbies included traveling to Alaska four times, Canada, Panama and throughout the United States. She also enjoyed fishing, painting, knitting, playing cards, baking and most of all spending time with her family.
