Emma (Mrs. Aldo) Mae Lindstrom

September 7, 1927 — October 5, 2016

Emma (Mrs. Aldo) Lindstrom of Rush City passed away at the Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the age of 89. Emma Mae Allen was born September 7, 1927 in Hinckley to Joseph and Ora (Baughman) Allen. She attended Hinckley Elementary and Junior High School. Due to the immediate needs of her family, Emma sacrificed her own educational endeavors, receiving only an 8th grade education and became a nurturing caregiver who provided the oversight, care and guidance for her younger siblings. This was the beginning of a life filled with many unselfish acts of kindness and generosity that continued throughout her life as a wife, mother, neighbor and friend. In 1951, Emma married Aldo Lindstrom and to this union they were blessed with 4 children: Gordon, Linda, Larry and Leroy. Emma was a farmer’s wife, engaged in all aspects of running and maintaining a dairy farm, which included growing a variety of crops, consisting of corn, hay (clover and timothy) and oats. While Emma lived a simple life, she was no stranger to the complexities, challenges and rewards of “living off the land” for more than a half of a century. She taught and instilled in each of their four children the same unselfish acts of giving and generosity that she embodied. Emma loved the Lord and she loved family. Up until her passing she often reflected on her family and her life on the farm. She would talk about how much she missed her “sweet and loving daughter” Linda who passed away in 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer; her son “Gordy” and how his crops or livestock were doing; her son Larry who now resides in Florida and how much she missed him; and her son Leroy and how he has always worked too hard ever since he was a little boy. Emma also enjoyed sharing many stories about all of the wonderful meals she prepared for her family with the vegetables and other delectable foods she grew in her huge gardens. To hear her reminisce and speak of her days on the farm about the fresh milk, the baking of pies, cakes and bread, the canning of vegetables, the jams and jellies, the donuts and the potato sausage, you knew her life was one of total fulfillment. Travel to places such as California, Las Vegas and Washington D.C. to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom is something she truly enjoyed. After Aldo passed away, Emma then became a longtime resident of Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City where she again developed many caring and lasting relationships with both residents and staff. She was a “song bird” who loved to sing. The residents and staff relished in the angelic beauty of her singing as well as her ability to create original songs so effortlessly; and in doing so warmed the hearts of so many. Emma is survived by her sons Gordon Lindstrom of Rush City, Larry (Sue) Lindstrom of Jacksonville, Florida and Leroy (Charlesetta Rolack)) Lindstrom of Brooklyn Park; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Vathana “Nu”) Maniphanh, John Lindstrom and Anders Lindstrom; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Ora Allen; husband Aldo Lindstrom; daughter Linda Lindstrom; sisters Jean Robinson and Gloria Allen; brothers Clarence, Chester and Jasper Allen. Dr. Reverend Vicki VanderVegt officiated Emma’s funeral service: 2:00 PM: Saturday, October 8, 2016 with a time of visitation and reviewal one hour prior to the service; all at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. Casket bearers included Clarence Allen, Jr., Roger Allen, Mike Robinson and Randy Robinson with the interment in the Free Mission Cemetery, northwest of Rush City. There is no doubt, lives will be impacted and mourn our loss. Indeed, those who truly knew Emma are well aware she has transcended into heaven. Praise the Lord. Funeral arrangements for Emma Lindstrom of Rush City are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City ~ Olson Chapel. www.funeralandcremationservice.com
