Duane Charles Gust Sr.

Charles Duane Peterson (aka Duane Charles Gust Sr.) was born November 26, 1931 to Elmer and Sophie Peterson of Badger Minnesota. At the age of 4 years old Duane was adopted by Florian and Dorothy Gust of Strathcona Minnesota. At that time his name was changed to Duane Charles Gust. Duane grew up and attended high school in Greenbush Minnesota. At the age of 25 years old Duane went into the Army. He was stationed at the Nike Missile Base in Karlsruhe, Germany and worked in communications. In 1961 Duane attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and received his Electricians Certificate. After graduating, Duane began work in 1963 as an Electrical Lineman. In September 1966 Duane met Charlotte O’Harra. A month later they spent their first date looking at the leaves in Taylors Falls then eating dinner at the Howard Johnson Restaurant in Stillwater Minnesota. September 23, 1967 Duane and Charlotte were married. They moved onto their farm in Rush City April 1968. Duane was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle who enjoyed hunting, fishing, working the fields with his John Deere Tractors, tending the gardens, chopping wood, watching and listening to the birds and going for walks. He enjoyed Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Alan Jackson and Josh Turner. Duane died peacefully July 21, 2009 at Lake Minnetonka Care Center at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife Charlotte of 41 years and his children: Jacqueline (Tye) Lutgen of Almelund, MN., Cynthia Tews (Bill Kirchoff), Duane Gust Jr. (Lisa Chavez), Gabriel (BoYoung) Gust all of Rush City, MN., Christopher Gust (Lindsey Sandvig)of Bloomington, MN., Geraldine Gust (Jason Poteete)of Rush City, MN.; sister Florence Zak of Greenbush, MN.; grandchildren: Jaclyn, Josephine, Thomas, Rachel, Brianna, Amanda, Collin, Ariella, Gerrick and Rebecca; Friends from Lake Minnetonka Care Center and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Duane is preceded in death by his biological parents, Sophie and Elmer Peterson, as well as his adoptive parents, Florian and Dorothy Gust. His brothers, Philip Gust and LeRoy Peterson and his sister Helen (Peterson) Larson. A time of visitation and reviewal is schedulred 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City, MN. with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial and “Miliatary Honors” for Duane Gust will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Wednesday morning at 10am.
