Ryan Grove passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at his mother’s home in Pine City, Minnesota at the age of 42.
Ryan Greig Grove was born July 16, 1974 in Fridley, Minnesota to Greig and Barbara Grove. He was the second of three children – he followed his brother Ross and led the way for his younger sister Kari.
Ryan’s summers were spent camping, fishing and spending time with family at their cabin on Big Marine. He was always involved in sports in school, enjoying basketball the best. He graduated from Fridley High School in 1992, the same year his daughter Kathryn Ann (KD) was born. He continued his education at Anoka Technical College, graduating with an Associate degree in tool & die making. Following college, he married Kimberly Finger and for 13 years they made their home in East Bethel with their daughter Alana.
He enjoyed working in his garden and yard and was a Minnesota sports fan and an avid fisherman. A highlight was salmon and halibut fishing with Kari, Barb, his uncle Jim Hickle, and his former brother-in-law Joe Finger in Alaska. He recently finished building his ice fishing house and was happily chopping wood in preparation for the season. He was also a hunter and enjoyed getting his deer stand ready each season.
The best part of Ryan’s life was his family. Being a father was his greatest joy and it was the time spent playing with Alana that Ryan most fondly treasured, like shooting hoops, playing softball and taking bike rides together. He enjoyed watching Kari and KD play on their church softball team and going to Alana’s volleyball games and dance recitals. Having coffee every morning with his mom Barb and step-father Ferlin is a memory that Barb will always treasure. He enjoyed watching his two nephews play and put on shows at every family get-together.
Ryan is survived by his daughters Kathryn Ann Lassi of Fridley and Alana Grove of East Bethel; father Greig Grove of Chisago City; mother Barbara Grove and step-father Ferlin Frye of Pine City; sister Kari (Joe) Jewett and nephews Bryce and Brady Jewett all of Forest Lake; niece Hannah Kingsley; great-niece Celeste Kingsley; step-sister Rose Frye of Pine City; step-brother Samuel Frye of Fruita, Colorado; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his brother Ross Tamminen; uncle Jerome Hickle; grandparents Hank and Myrtle Hickle and Tate and Vivy Grove.
Pastor Brad Reis will officiate at the memorial service for Ryan at 2:00 PM; Sunday November 13, 2016 at Willowbrook Church in Forest Lake. Chad and Heidi Goehring will be providing music. The interment will take place at the Rosehill Cemetery in Hinckley at a later date.
He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
