Calvin Lowell Hill

Calvin L. Hill died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, surrounded by family at Lakeside Health and Rehab in Pine City, Minn. He was 83 years old. He was born March 17, 1933, in Heron Lake, Minn.  He grew up there and attended the Heron Lake School for 12 years, where he played football for four years in high school. He was baptized and a member of the Methodist Church. He was united in marriage to MaryLee Peterson on Oct. 28, 1952. This marriage was blessed with four children: Danny, David, Peggy and Duane.  The Hill family moved to Pine City in 1962. After the children were grown, there were many moves for Cal and Mary. Cal enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.  He so loved every part of his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives, and he and Mary went to every athletic event they could. He also enjoyed helping all in the time of need. He will be sadly missed by all. He suffered a stroke and went to Lakeside on Sept.  18, 2012, being cared for there until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents Birney M. and Minnie J. (Williams) Hill Sr.; sister Mildred (Don) Brandt; brother Birney M. (Mary F.) Hill Jr.; son Danny and wife Pamela Jo Hill, son Duane Hill and great-grandson Deven Mettling.  He is survived by his wife MaryLee (Peterson) Hill, daughter Peggy (Rick) Wasson, son David (Dorothy) Hill, daughter-in-law Faith (Mark) Blackwell, brother Sidney (Bonnie) Hill, 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and many other relatives. Reverend Dr. Vicki VanderVegt will officiate at funeral services for Calvin at 11 a.m. Dec. 10, 2016, at the Swanson’s Funeral Chapel in Pine City, Minn. A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place two hours prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Calvin’s grandchildren Jessica, Philip, Sarah, Matthew, Michele, Patrice, Krista, Emily, Callie, Ricky, Jeremy, Jimmy and Jared. Interment will be at Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City.
