Steven Craig Linn was born on April 3, 1950 in Richland, WA. He grew up between San Bernadino, CA during the school year and Aurora, MN in the summers, where he enjoyed days up at the family cabin on Lake Vermillion. Steve graduated from Pacific High School in San Bernadino in 1968 and shortly thereafter enrolled in aviation electronics school with the Navy. He then joined the Navy VP-1 squadron in 1969 and did two deployments in the Vietnam War, based out of Japan and the Philippines. After the service Steve worked at the prison in St. Cloud, went through air traffic controller school in Oklahoma City, and for the Lane County jail in Eugene, OR. A call from a friend brought him back to Minnesota to drive truck in the Twin Cities. After this he began his long career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. This brought him and the family to Sandstone, MN, Rochester, MN, Yankton, SD, Kansas City, MO, and finally back to Sandstone where he retired after 20 years with the Bureau of Prisons. Along the way he also picked up a degree from Concordia University in St. Paul. Steve enjoyed many activities, including playing guitar, skiing, golfing, running marathons, and spending as much time as he could with his family and many friends that he had across the country.
Steve was married to Mary Lang on January 30, 2009 in Pine County, MN. and resided in the Brook Park area since. Steve Linn is survived by his wife Mary of Brook Park and sons Pete Linn of Rochester, Josh Linn of Mpls., Nick Linn of Rush City, his sister Vicki Thompkins of North Carolina and step-father Lloyd McDaniel of Oceanside, Cal.
Father Xavier Thelakkott celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial; 9:00 A.M. Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City, Minnesota. Music was provided by Alexia Santele-Fox and Kris Paulson. Casket bearers included sons Pete Linn, Josh Linn, Nick Linn, brother-in-law Steve Lang and friends Steve D’Alessio and Dan Courteau with the interment in the Fort Snelling National Cemtery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
