Donald Henry Mohr

January 15, 1926 — February 5, 2017

Don Mohr passed away on Sunday February 5, 2017 at the age of 91.Don was born on January 15, 1926 to George and Elsie (Reppert) Mohr.  He attended school in Pine City.  He entered the army in 1944 during WWII and served in France and Germany.  He was an active member of the VFW.Don was a fabulous athlete who was great at everything he tried.  He was an avid golfer and in his earlier days he had even shot a hole-in-one.  He excelled in hockey, scoring many hat tricks.  Don led the Pine City Pirates to many state tournament appearances.  He once hit 3 home runs in the same game.  He bowled numerous high series games and had a 234 average.  He was a great hunter and fisherman.  He liked to hunt ducks, pheasant, and especially deer.  He also caught numerous large walleyes and northern.Don’s first job was at Webb gas station.  He also set pins at the bowling alley and sorted bottles at the Coke Plant.  He worked for many years at Dorow Furniture which is where he met his wife Gwen.  She used to buy records every pay day in hopes he would ask her out, even though she didn’t have a record player.  He was very shy.  Don also worked for the City of Pine City Public Works until his retirement.Don was very proud of his huge garden and loved to work in it.  It produced beautiful raspberries and many vegetables which he loved to give away. Don was a very giving person and would help anyone who was in need of it.  He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with both family and friends.Don and Gwen were married for over 60 years.  Their first date was on New Year’s Eve.  It was a tradition of theirs to get dressed up and go dancing every New Year’s Eve to follow.Don was preceded in death by his wife Gwendolyn, brother Leonard and sister Lucille, and his parents George and Elsie Mohr.  He is survived by his sister Dorothy Trippler, children Jeffrey (Anne) Mohr, Timothy Mohr, Sharon (Jeff) Pangerl, David and Todd Mohr.  Grandchildren Jennifer Mohr, Chad (Laurie) Wiener, Jonnie (Jessica) Pangerl, McKenzie (Luke) Kubista, and Dillon Mohr.  Great grandchildren Julia, Abby, Jacob and Bethanny Wiener, and Westin Pangerl.With heavy hearts we will say goodbye to a wonderful man who was very special to all of us.  We take great comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with the love of his life.Reverend Rob Spahr will officiate a Celebration of Don’s life at the First Presbyterian Church in Pine City at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 with a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at church.Interment will take place in the Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City with full military honors.Funeral arrangements for Donald Mohr of Pine City are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Pine City ~ Swanson Chapel. www.funeralandcremationservice.com
