Edward Chromey Sr. of Pine City passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Lakeside Health and Rehab in Pine City at the age of 92. Edward Michael Chromey, Sr. was born October 31, 1924 to Joseph A. and Josephine (Eiynck) Chromey on a farm located on Mary Lake in Grey Eagle Township, Minnesota. Ed helped his family raise dairy cows and rent fishing boats. He went to school until the eighth grade and in 1942, entered the US Navy and served on board the USS Monongahela. After leaving the service, Ed married Ramona Lindquist and together they had 10 children. His work brought him to Pilgrims Cleaners and later to Northern Pump/FMC. After Ed retired, he bought a farm in the Wadena area with his second wife Shirley. While living there, he was known to fish on the Long Prairie River which flowed through his front yard. He had a passion for wood working, fishing, gardening, square dancing and creating yard ornaments. During his stay at the Lakeside Medical Center and Rehabilitation Center, he would spend his time listening to country music and painting crafts that would be sold or given away. He looked forward to spending his first Wednesday of every month at the local American Legion Senior Dance where he would enjoy a Black or White Russian drink with his many friends. At Christmas, his birthdays and summer family BBQ’s at his daughters place, you could find him spending time with his children, many grandchildren and recently even great-grandchildren. Ed lived a long and wonderful life and will be missed by many. Ed is survived by his children: Karen (Larry) Brackenbury of Pine City, Cynthia Kallsen of St. Cloud, Edward Jr. (Andrea) Chromey of Harris, Joseph Chromey of Mora, Thomas (Patricia) Chromey of Pine City, Theresa Haglund of Bemidji, Barbara (Marlin) Carlson of Mora, Christine Chromey of Bemidji, Andrew Chromey of Anoka; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Clarence Chromey of Richmond, Ervin (Helen) Chromey of Blaine; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph A. and Josephine Chromey; daughter Victoria (Jeff) Snyder; and 8 siblings. Deacon Gene Biever will officiate at funeral services for Ed: 11 AM Wednesday (3/22) at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned for Tuesday (3/21) from 6-8 PM and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. Casket bearers will include Ed’s grandchildren: Adam Brackenbury, Abbie Brackenbury, Stephen Kallsen, Chad Chromey, Matt Chromey, Luke Chromey, Trisha Haglund and Jessica Bergum. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy. The interment will take place on Thursday (3/23) at Fort Ripley Minnesota Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, Minnesota.
