Kathleen "Kathy" Rae Janssen

Kathleen "Kathy" Janssen of Pine City passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Golden Horizons at the age of 76.Kathleen Rae Mattison was born December 17, 1940 to Arthur and Ethel (Davis) Mattison in Forest City, Iowa.  She lived in Scarville, Iowa for several years before moving to a farm near Beroun, Minnesota in 1949.  The family moved to Pine City in 1955, where she graduated from high school in 1958.After graduation, she worked at Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance in St. Paul, returning on the weekends to go dancing at the Pine Camp Ballroom with family and friends. This is where she met her future husband, Paul Janssen.  They were married on July 28, 1962.  From this union, four children were born; Karen, Tom, Vicki and Tim.  After raising her children, Kathy returned to the workforce and was employed for many years at both Montgomery Wards and J.C. Penney's catalog stores.  She also worked at the First National Bank in Pine City, retiring in 2006.Kathy was known for her love of family and her kind, friendly nature.  She was a zealous fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, the Minnesota Gopher football and basketball teams. Her hobbies included dancing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. She also loved to cook andwas known for her chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, potato salad and rice pudding.Kathy is survived by her husband Paul Janssen; children: Karen (Jerome) Misik, Tom Janssen, Vicki Janssen, Tim (Amy) Janssen; grandchildren: Maya McDougall, Remy Janssen and Willa Janssen; brothers: Delmer (Delores) Mattison, Jon (Kathy) Mattison and Lyle (Crystal) Mattison; "sisters"-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mary Ann Wurm, Phyllis (Bruce) Falk, Nancy (Skip) Stevens, Sandy (Marlen) Holmberg and Sally (Vern) Valvoda, many other relatives and friends.She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Ethel Mattison and stepfather Russell Pitkin.Pastor Fred Hanson will officiate at Memorial services for Kathy:  11:00 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, a time for family and friends to gather is planned for Sunday evening (4/9/17) 3:00-7:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service.  The Memorial Service on Monday, visitation Sunday evening and 1 hour prior to the service will all be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Pine City.
