Lloyd Wesley Gilbey

November 17, 1948 — September 10, 2009

Lloyd Wesley Gilbey, Jr., the son of Lloyd and Eldora (Firle) Gilbey, was born November 17, 1948, at Princeton, Minnesota.  He died September 10, 2009, at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota at the age of 60 years.             Lloyd lived most of his life in the Pine City area and attended Pine City Schools.  As a young man he worked hauling milk, both cans and bulk             On July 12, 1969, he met Betty Pugsley and they were married May 22, 1977.             Lloyd drove truck for Harold Johnson, and for Harry and Myron Haug.  He later worked at East Central Livestock in Mora, Minnesota and for Heidelberger Auctions.  In 1972, Lloyd attended auctioneer school in Mason City, Iowa.  Auctioneering was something he loved to do as it gave him the opportunity to interact with many different people, and he did enjoy the people.             Lloyd loved to fish, hunt, play cards, and spend time with his friends and relatives (all those nieces and nephews!).  For many years he helped with the Pine City Lion’s auctions.  He loved to tease and aggravate people.  Other than the previously mentioned favorite things, a chair and coffee cup at the Rock Creek Café (even though Lloyd called it something else) was a must everyday, if at all possible.  He was always willing to lend a helping had to anyone, whether he knew them or not.             Lloyd is survived by his wife:  Betty; sisters and brother-in-laws:  Phyllis & LeRoy Gardner of Pine City, Marilyn & Paul Jasa of Edina, MN, Charlue & Ben Hancock of Brook Park, MN, Shirley & Dan Larson of Cambridge, MN, and Tammy Skalicky of Sandstone, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law:  James Gilbey of Rush City, MN, Wayne & Diane Gilbey of Hermantown, MN, and Wesley & Diane Gilbey of Rush City; many, many, many, many, nieces and nephews; mother-in-law:  Clara Pugsley of Pine City; brother-in-law:  Lawrence & Carol Pugsley of Verndale, MN; sisters-in-law:  Barbara G. Pugsley of Pine City, Charlotte & Del Johnston of White Bear Lake, MN, and Norma & Robert Gable of Minneapolis, MN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Sr. and Eldora Gilbey, sister Maxine Brown, father-in-law Donald Pugsley, brother-in-law Ross Pugsley, and sister-in-law Barbara E. Pugsley. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 15th, at the First Presbyterian Church of Pine City. A visitation will take place on Monday evening from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City.
