Lyle George Miller, the son of George and Viola (Kiefer) Miller, was born December 23, 1925 in Harris, Iowa. He grew up there, attended Harris Schools, and graduated from Harris High School in 1943. Lyle then enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a radiomen coding and decoding messages during the end of World War II.

In 1969, the Miller family moved to Lakeville, Minnesota where Lyle worked in Civil Service for Federal Aviation following his retirement from the United States Navy. He retired from his Civil Service obligations in 1986 and then worked part time for BMW Auto and also had a few other jobs that kept him busy. In 1999, Lyle and Marilyn moved to the Rush City area to spend their retirement years.

He loved Dixieland music and was most proud to serve his country during World War II. Due to his military connection in the Navy, he was active in the Fleet Reserve Association.
