Dorothy Mathiesen of Harris, died Tuesday at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Mpls at the age of 72 years.
Born in Breckenridge, Minnesota on January 29, 1937, Dorothy was the daughter of Ransom and Beatrice (Trinka) Mallinger. Raised on a farm in rural North Dakota, she attended “country school” and in 1955 graduated from Lidgerwood High School at Lidgerwood, North Dakota.
In Iowa on December 23, 1955, Dorothy was united in marriage to Duane Mathiesen. They later lived in Minneapolis and purchased their first home in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. In 1967 Dorothy and Duane moved to Rush City, Minnesota and in 1974 they moved once again, this time to rural Harris. Dorothy retired from the Harris Post Office as a rural mail carrier in 1996.
Dorothy loved country living and enjoyed planting and caring for her many beautiful gardens. She also enjoyed sewing and caring for her home and family.
She is survived by her children Laurie Bromwich of Harris, Kelly Ann Hokanson and her husband Kelly Paul of Rush City, daughter-in-law Lisa Mathiesen of Harris, grandsons Michael Bromwich of Braham, Christian and Gregory Mathiesen of Harris, her mother; Beatrice Halverson of Wahpeton, North Dakota, her sister Margie Hook and husband Carl of Bountiful, Utah, her brother George Mallinger and wife Kathy of Lidgerwood, North Dakota, mother-in-law Ella Mathiesen of Wahpeton, North Dakota, sister-in-law Sandra Hanson of Milnor, North Dakota and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her father Ransom Mallinger, husband Duane Mathiesen, son David Mathiesen and her daughter Renee Marable.
Rev. Richard Mork will officiate at funeral services for Dorothy Mathiesen; 1:00 p.m. Saturday (11/14/09) at the First Lutheran Church of Harris.
A time of visitation and reviewel is scheduled for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church and also Friday evening 5-8 p.m. @ the Olson Chapel in Rush City.
Dorothy Mathiesen will be interred at the Sunrise Cemetery in Sunrise.
