Vernon Austin Cassman

Vernon Austin Cassman of Pine City, formerly of Mora and Forest Lake, died on November 25th, 2009 at his son’s home in Lino Lakes at the age of 71. Vernon was a Telecommunications technician for over 30 years. He traveled often in his line of work so he knew the MN highways very well. He was well like by his co-workers. He married Doreen Goldbloom in 1958 and they raised 4 sons together until Doreen passed away in 1974. He then moved to Forest Lake and married Kathy Goldbloom and adopted her boys Mike and Eric. They were then blessed with their Pride and Joy, their only daughter Theresa. Vern was happiest in life if had a project big or small to do. From construction, electrical to mechanical he could do it all. He built his cabin and that’s where he was most content in his last years. Vern worked hard and played hard all of his life. He enjoyed going to Happy Hour with his family and friends. He spent every Sunday afternoon in the fall rooting for the Vikings. Vern and his neighbor Shirley Brazil have been neighbors at the cabin forever. They have been best friends and took care of each other these last few years. He is survived by sons Rick and Lori Cassman of Lino Lakes, Ronald, Randolph, and Robin Cassman all of St. Paul, Michael Cassman of Cambridge, Eric Cassman of Pine City, Daughter Theresa and Gene Evenson of Forest Lake; Grandchildren Gayle, Russell, Alex, Corbyn, Tyler, Nicholas, and Emma; Great Grandchildren Julian, Gabriella, Austin; Brother Ken and Marie Cassman of Sandstone; close friend Shirley Brazil, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Doreen Cassman, his parents Austin and Francis (White) Cassman, Brother Don Cassman and his Grandson Adam. A special Thank You to Fairview Home Health Care and Hospice for your loving treatment and care for Vernon the last months he was with us. We know your gentle way helped Vern and his family get though these trying times. Rev. Kathryn Tiede will officiate at funeral services for Vern Cassman of Pine City; 11 :00 a.m. Monday (Nov. 30, 2009) at the Fish Lake Lutheran Church in Stark. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Fish Lake Lutheran Cemetery next to the church.
