George Arthur Kaltenhauser was born April 25, 1920 in Hinckley, Minnesota to William and Louise (Dahlman) Kaltenhauser. He was the youngest of eight children; Harold Kathryn, Ethelwyn, Chet, Madelyn, Delphine and Kenneth.
George graduated from Hinckley High School in 1939. He married Kathleen Brennan in 1942 and the couple had three children; Mike, Kathy and Jill.
In 1942, George entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, the Yukon and California. He was honorable discharged September of 1945.
Throughout his life, George had a number of occupations. He worked as an iron worker, sergeant at the Stillwater Prison, foreman for the Twin Cities Arsenal and as a chemical dependency counselor for Chisago and Isanti Counties.
For many years, George served as a director on the Rush City Hospital Board and on the board of directors of the Serenity Manor in Mora and Danewood in Braham, halfway houses for the chemically dependant which George helped to establish.
George Kaltenhauser died Monday evening (3/15/10) at the Golden Living Center in Rush City, at the age of 89 years.
George is survived by his children: Kathy (Jack) Anderson of Braham, MN, Jill Hegg of
Rush City, MN, Michael Kaltenhauser of Wyoming, MN, grandchildren; Missi, Mark, Mindy, Justin, Brian, Chris, Joe, Jenny and Kayle, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, Sisters: Madelyn Berg of North Branch, MN, Delphine Monroe of Long Lake, MN, Sisters-in-law: Evelyn Kaltenhauser of Minneapolis, MN, Gladys Kaltenhauser of Lindstrom, MN, nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents William & Louise (Dahlman) Kaltenhauser, wife Kathleen (Brennan) Kaltenhauser, great grandson Jared Hegg, sisters: Kathryn Ahlstrand, Ethelwyn Kaltenhauser, brothers: Harold, Chet, Kenneth Kaltenhauser,
Mother-in-law and Father-in-law: Mary & Jim Brennan, sisters-in-law: Peg Saloka, Susan Brennan, Mary Brennan brothers-in-law: Paul Berg, Orrie Monroe, Gib Ahlstrand,
Robert, Edward, J. D., Thomas and Bill Brennan.
Chaplain Marlin Harris will officiate at a memorial service; 2 p.m. Saturday March 27, 2010 at the Olson Chapel in Rush City with a time of visitation one hour prior to the service.
Interment for Mr. George Kaltenhauser will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Hinckley
