Mrs. Cecilia Gluth of Rush City died Monday evening at her home in Rush City, at the age of 99 years.
Cele Gluth was born October 22, 1910 in Rock Creek, Mn. To Gustav and Agnes (Nelson)
Olson. When Cele was 14 years old her family moved into Rush City and at age 16 she started working at Wilson’s Grocery Store and later for the M.J. Moses Dry Goods. During WW II Cele moved to Chicago and worked for the Endelwood Electric Company as a bookkeeper. Since Cele and her sister Ethel were both living in Chicago, they moved their Mom and sister Vivian to Chicago so they could be together. After the war, Cele and her mother moved back to Rush City, and she married Harold Gluth. In October of 1954, Cele and Harry built a new home on a piece of property which is now home to Unity Bank in Rush City. Here they had more space and Lynne could have horses.
In February of 1955, Harry died very unexpectedly from heart issues and Cele was thrust into a new role. Fortunately, Harry had confided in Cele about his business venture “Gluth Oil Co.”and Cele was able to operate the Conoco Station for several years befoere selling it to Conoco. This involved pumping gas checking oil and tires for customers in the evening hours when she could not hire enough help.
From 1957 to 1973, Cele owned and operated a womens and childrens clothing store in Rush City in a building she purchased from Art and Minnie Nelson.
After selling her store, Cele worked part time at Wilma’s Dry Goods Store.helped at the Seniot Center and baby sat. Before her eyesight failed, Cele enjoyed sewing and making most of her and L ynne’s clothing.
Cele was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City, the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Auxilary post 6692 and the Rush City Development Corporation.
Cele Gluth is survived by her daughter Lynn Graber and her husband Rodney of Stacy, MN., step-grandchildren Brent & Jacob Graber, one sister Vivian Sigstad of Mora and several nieces and nephews.
Cele was preceded in death by her parents, Gus & Agnes Olson, husband Harold Gluth, sister Ethel Lucas, brother Roy Olson and brothers-in-law Jim Gluth and Ray Gluth.
Rev. Laurie O’Shea officiated at funeral services Friday (4/23/10) 10:30 a.m. @ the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City with a time of visitation and reviewal one hour prior to the service at church.
Cele Gluth was intered in the First Lutheran Cemetery of Rush City, MN.
