Earl Schweigert was born on his family homestead, east of Rush City, on June 21, 1933 to Mildred (Shimel) and George Schweigert. Earl was the middle child of five children. He grew up in Rush City, attending schools and graduating from Rush City High School.After high school Earl entered the U.S. Army and in 1952 was given an Honorable Discharge to return home and run the family farm following his Dad's heart attack.
In 1956, Earl met Mavis Nelson while roller skating and the two were married a year later. Together, they raised six children while running the family farm. Earl also worked out building silos for a silo company and for 18 years Earl worked as a shift foreman at Plastech Corporation.
In 2003, Earl retired from milking cows. Since that time, Earl has enjoyed going to his children’s ball games, fishing trips to Snowbank Lake and hunting deer.
Earl passed away at the family homestead; August 23, 2010 surrounded by his family at the age of 77 years. He will be missed by many!
He is survived by his wife Mavis; children: Tony Schweigert and wife Janet of Rush City, Ronnie Schweigert and Elizabeth Garrettson of Fayettville, North Carolina, Rita Sanders and her husband Terry of Pine City, Ray Schweigert and his wife Diana of Rush City, Sue Ellen Schweigert and Scott Pearson of Pine City, Chad Schweigert and his wife Krissy of Rosemount; grandchildren Alice Schweigert, John (Lisa) Schweigert, Bill Schweigert, Joseph (Abby) Sanders, Jacob Sanders, Christopher Neuman, Hanus Schweigert, Derek Pearson, Haley Schweigert and Hunter Schweigert, great granddaughter Alexa Schweigert, sister Ruby Hokanson of Harris, brothers George Schweigert and wife Dorethy of Laurie, MO., Floyd Schweigert and wife Marcia of Cushing Oklahoma, brothers-in-law Don Barthel of Albertville, Walter Nelson and wife Jane of St. Cloud, sister-in-law Shirley Leitch and husband Roger of North Branch and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Barthel.
Rev. Richard Mork will officiate at memorial services: Thursday 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Harris. A time of visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service at the church.
