Master Sergeant Daniel L. Fedder, USMC, of Pine City, Minnesota died on August 27, 2010 in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. MSgt Fedder was born on 31 July, 1976 in Mora, Minnesota. He attended Grasston Christian Academy from 1st through 6th grades. He later attended Pine City High School and graduated in 1994. His accomplishments included Wrestling throughout his high school career, Football, Speech and also participated in the Heritage Club (Theater). He had an intense love of the outdoors and motorcycles.
MSgt Fedder enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego, California, 27 December 1994. Upon graduation Pvt Fedder reported to Marine Combat Training in March 1995, at Camp Pendleton, California. In April 1995, Pvt Fedder checked into the Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Upon completion of the Engineer Equipment Operators Course in August 1995, PFC Fedder received the 1345 MOS and was meritoriously promoted to LCpl for being his class honor grad. From MOS school LCpl Fedder received orders to MWSS 171 in Iwakuni, Japan where he served as a Heavy Equipment Operator from September 1995 to September 1996.
In September 1996, Cpl Fedder executed orders to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. While with CEB he served as a Heavy Equipment Operator with Support Company and as a Sapper Instructor with Headquarters Company. During the summer of 1997 he received orders to Marine Security Guard School (MSG) and departed 1st CEB December 1997 and reported to Marine Security Guard Battalion, Quantico, Virginia in January 1998.
Upon graduating MSG School in February 1998, Cpl Fedder reported to the Marine Detachment in Muscat, Oman for duty as a watch stander. In May 1999 Sgt Fedder reported to the Marine Detachment in Caracas, Venezuela. He served as the Assistant Detachment Commander until his departure in November 2000.
Sgt Fedder returned to MSG BN in November 2000 and made a lateral move into the Explosive Ordnance Disposal community. In July 2001 he attended Navy School Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. While in EOD School he was promoted to the rank of SSgt and was his class honor grad. He received the 2336 MOS and was designated as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician.
In March 2002, SSgt Fedder reported to Combat Service Support Group 3, Khoneohe Bay, Hawaii for duty as an EOD Technician. During his time with CSSG-3 SSgt Fedder participated in numerous EOD missions including a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from August 2004 to February 2005. During his deployment to Iraq he was promoted to GySgt and received orders to Camp Pendleton.
In July 2005, GySgt Fedder reported to 1st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. He served as a Section Leader and Team Leader during a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2006 to September 2006. Upon his return from Iraq GySgt Fedder was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 11, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit as the EOD Detachment OIC from October 2006 to June 2008.
After his return from West Pac 08 GySgt Fedder was promoted to MSgt and assigned as the Platoon Sergeant for 1st Platoon, 1st EOD Company. MSgt Fedder deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in April 2010 as the Platoon Sergeant for 1st Platoon, 1st EOD Company.

MSgt Daniel Fedder is survived by his wife, Diana Fedder (California); former spouse, Susan Fedder; their two children, daughter Danielle (10) and son, Storm (6) (California); his parents Jackie and Robert McKellar; and brother Dominick “Nick” McKellar.
A visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 6th, 2010 from 4:ooPM-8:00PM at the National Guard Armory, 1305 Main Street South, Pine City, MN. The funeral service will be held on September 7th, 2010 at 10AM at the Armory. The interment will immediately follow the funeral service at the Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City.
Memorials are preferred to the "Dan Fedder Sports Scholarship Fund" at the Pine City High School.
