Doris Eileen Beckman

October 13, 1922 — September 18, 2010

Doris Eileen Beckman, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in North Branch, Minnesota on September 18, 2010. She was 87 years of age. Doris was born October 13, 1922 at St. Paul, Minnesota and was the daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Anderson) Carlson. She was baptized and confirmed at North End Emmanuel Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Following the death of her husband, Charles Carlson in 1963, Doris began her accounting career at Buckbee Mears Company. She retired from there at age 55, after 33 years of service. In 1968, Doris married Harold Beckman. They made their home in Fridley, Minnesota until 1975 when they moved to Harris, Minnesota to enjoy their retirement. Harold passed away in 2000. Doris enjoyed her hobbies of sewing, crocheting, yard work, and volunteer work at her church, the First Lutheran Church of Harris. There she belonged to the Altar Guild, W.E.L.C.A., Grace Circle and Hope Circle, served as church secretary for several years, and helped wherever she could. Following her retirement, Doris liked nothing more than visiting with her family and friends. Her needle work was superb and she made sure all of her family and many friends had a piece of her handy work. In later years she took watercolor painting classes and continued to paint until her eyesight failed. She was a great cook and enjoyed entertaining other residents in her apartment complex with dinners and baked goods. She is survived by her daughter Jackie (Dick) Okerland of Blaine, grandchildren Carla (Kalland) Hill, Darin Kalland, Cari (Kalland) Acker; step-grandchildren: Mera (Okerlund) Colling and Heather (Okerlund) Rodgers; many great grandchildren, her sister Lois Nelson of Roseville, nieces and nephews and dear friends Debe (Roger) Pearson of Harris and Tina (Steve) Woelber of Sibley, Iowa. Doris is preceded in death by her parents Arthur & Mabel (Anderson) Carlson and her husbands Charles Carlson and Harold Beckman. Rev. Richard Mork and Intern Pastor Valorie Putt will officiate at funeral services for Doris Beckman (Mrs. Harold Beckman); Thursday 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Harris. A time of visitation and reviewal is scheduled for one hour prior to the funeral at the church. The interment will be in the Roselawn Cemetery in St. Paul.
