Alan Karas of Rush City passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at St. John's Hospital at the age of 70, after battling illnesses for the last several months.
Alan was born on April 1, 1954 to Don and Delores Karas in Rush City, Minnesota.
Alan graduated from Rush City High School in 1972. He was a longtime construction worker with several years in the Carpenter's Union, as well as working independently. He also teamed up with his brother Don, managing out-of-state jobs for a few years.
Alan developed a passion for hunting and fishing at a young age. He spent his free time hunting in the woods of Minnesota and also the Wisconsin outdoors with good friends. When he wasn't hunting, he spent his free time on the lakes at his favorite fishing hole or could be found relaxing at his favorite watering hole. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Lake of the Woods and Rainy River. He was generous sharing fresh fish with family and friends.
Alan was also an avid gardener and mushroom hunter. Again, sharing many mushrooms and veggies generously. When he relaxed, he read crime/mystery novels and also watched sports on TV.
Alan will be remembered for his genuine and jocular personality. He took great joy in cracking jokes and making those around him laugh.
Alan is survived by his son Shawn Karas; brother and sister-in-law Don and Mary Karas; sister-in-law Ginni Karas; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Delores; brother Warren.
Alan will be missed by all who knew him. His infectious laughter and kind spirit will live on in the memories of his family and friends.
A celebration of Alan's life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Rush City VFW Hall at 45 South Alger Avenue. Friends and relatives are welcome to bring stories and memories to share from 11 AM - 3 PM.
