Allan Duane Walter

October 9, 1943 — April 10, 2024

Pine City

Al Walter passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at his home in Pine City at the age of 80.

Allan Duane Walter was born October 9, 1943 to Roy and Ruth (Reynolds) Walter in Ortonville, Minnesota.

In 1961, Al graduated from the Ortonville High School.  He worked on the family farm until April 1966 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He was deployed to Germany and France where he drove semi tractor trailers.  After serving two years Al was honorably discharged in  April 1968.  In June of 1968 Al married Betty Komis also from Ortonville, they raised three sons Kade, Kevin and Darin.

Al was employed with Safetran as a machinist for 8 years. He moved to Erskine, Minnesota for new opportunities and this is where he met his business partner and together they owned and operated a welding and machining business.  Together they designed and developed a machine that could help farmers put their crops in when the fields were too wet for tractors. He left the business and the family moved to the cities where he was employed with Benning, Inc., a machine rebuilding company. After a couple of accidents hurting his hands he decided to retire at the age of 70.

In 2019 he and Betty sold both their Wisconsin cabin and Lino Lakes home to purchase lake property in Pine City.  Allan loved hunting, fishing and bowling.  It was after his retirement he became really interested in woodworking; making tip-out garbage bins, recycling bins, many useful household items and custom orders.  He attended many craft fairs and farmers markets in Pine City and the surrounding area, it was where he enjoyed meeting other vendors that would become his good friends.

Al is survived by his loving wife Betty Walter of Pine City; sons Kade (Stephani) Walter of Eden Prairie Darin (Angela) Walter of New Hope; grandson Alex Walter of Eden Prairie; sisters Margaret Solmonson of Mitchell, South Dakota, Delores Veach of An Louis Obispo, California; sister-in-law Gloria Tolzien; brother-in-law Ronald Komis; nephews  Stacy Walter, Steven Walter, Steven Walter, Scott Walter, Joel (Kristi) Solmonson, Terril (Lisa) Tolzien, Travis Tolzien; nieces Shawna (Brad) Bradly, Michell Solmonson, Greta Solmonson, Tonya Tolzien, Tian (Roger) Foss, Timothy (Kathy) Komis, Rodney (Michelle) Komis; many great nieces and nephew; other relatives and friends.
