Andy Neville passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at his home in Pine City at the age of 84.
Andrew Edward Neville was born February 12, 1937 to Henry and Josephine (Carlson) Neville in Pokegama Township, Pine County, Minnesota. Andy was born during a snowstorm; Dr. Alf Stratte skied to the Neville farm to make the delivery.
After his high school graduation; Andy helped build the “Pure Oil Station”, the little stone building remaining on the corner of old highway 61 and 1st Avenue in Pine City. He later was employed as an automotive mechanic for Gillespie Motors. Andy continued working for General Motors when Gillespie sold the business.
On December 12, 1959 Andy married Eileen Gardner; they made their home in Pine City. While living in town Andy served on Pine City Volunteer Fire Department. However, when they moved to the Neville family farm; much to his disappointment, the city didn’t allow him to continue with fire department. Andy was also an active member of the Pine City Lions for many years.
Andy loved the outdoors; one of his very favorite hobbies was cutting wood on his property. After harvesting large trees; he would cut the tree in big wood blocks and then split the wood with his custom wood splitter. After the splitting was completed he “ranked” the wood for later use in the wood burning stove in the garage. Andy was very meticulous in “ranking” his wood; many commented they had never seen wood stacked so precisely. Andy was an avid hunter and enjoyed many hunting seasons on his own property.
Andy is survived by his wife Eileen Neville; sons John Neville, Ben Neville; grandson Andrew Stumne all of Pine City; sister Joanne Nelson of Carbondale, Illinois; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Josephine Neville and brother John Neville.
