Rush City

Barbara "Barb" Kirk of Rush City passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Rushseba Station in Rush City at the age of 95.

Barbara Lynn Overmann was born on January 5, 1930 to Alfred and Mary (Squires) Overmann in Rush City, Minnesota. She graduated from Rush City High School in 1948.

Following graduation, Barb was employed for a time in Minneapolis as a secretary. She met her future husband, Ed Kirk, at a dance. They were later married in Mount Vernon, Washington, when Ed was in the United States Navy. Barb returned to Minneapolis when Ed was sent to Alaska to serve his country. He also then returned to Minneapolis, and he and Barb began their family. Barb gave birth to four children: Stephanie, Theresa, Edward Jr., and Cynthia. In 1959, the Kirk family moved to their home in St. Louis Park. Her home always included a house cat and sometimes a dog.

Barb worked for General Mills for 25 years, and during this time Barb and Ed purchased a lot on Rush Lake near Rush City. They enjoyed boating, fishing, swimming, and camping for many years. Lots of friendships were made as they traveled around with their camping groups.

Barb's hobbies included sewing, knitting, reading, playing cards with her friends, and golfing. She loved going for walks and kept active her whole life. She was a big sports fan and followed the Vikings, North Stars, and Wild hockey. Barb was part of the Rush City Women's Club for many years. She was also a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Barb was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, as well as a good friend to many. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Barb is survived by her children Theresa (Brian) Bennett of LaPorte, Colorado, Edward (Ann) Kirk, Jr. of Garrison, Cynthia (Scott) Ulrich of Apple Valley; grandchildren Eric Blaisdell, Lara (Rico) Caruso, Margaret (Jonathan) Dusing, Colleen (Nathan) Graf, Kathryn (Eric) Fasnacht, Alex Ulrich, Brittany (Joseph) Vaillancourt, and Monica Ulrich; great-grandchildren Madeline, Braeden, Carter, Claire, Raymond, Cara, Emmett, Blair, and Frank; other relatives and friends.
