Bernice Jennings was born on January 31, 1928, at her home in Rusheba Township. She was the daughter of Emil and Elvera Abrahamson and grew up on the family farm with her older brothers Roland and Harold. Bernice attended Rush City schools and beauty school in Minneapolis. Bernice and George made their home in Rush City after their marriage where she operated a beauty shop out of the house. As her family grew, she decided to devote her time to raising their children: Loren, Mark, Vandy and Wendy, and, later on, Lori. Bernice and George owned and operated the Texaco station in town and were active members of the community. In Bernice’s late 40’s she was thrown back into the workforce due to George's sudden death. When Kinger’s Market, which Loren was co-owner of, opened, she went to work in the produce department. She was extremely proud of the grocery store and mentioned often that she loved her job. Bernice loved people and her favorite part of working at the store was interacting with the community on a daily basis. Bernice was a lifelong member of the Covenant Church and enjoyed serving on the Ladies Aide in the Rush City church. She also enjoyed sewing for her family, crocheting, sharing her memories of her trip to Sweden with her brother with anyone who wanted to listen, and, most of all, being surrounded by and involved with her children and grandchildren. She often remarked how blessed she felt by her family, and we feel so very blessed to have her as a our mother and grandmother. She always had an open door and an extra chair at the table. Even though she will be missed greatly, we were so fortunate to have had her with us for so many years. Bernice passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the age of 89. Bernice is survived by her children Loren (Bonnie) Jennings of Harris, Mark (Kathleen Lake) Jennings of Dexter, Michigan, Vandy (Joe) Nelson of Trade Lake, Wisconsin, Wendy Cook of Rush City, Lori (Greg) Lent of Wausau, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Michelle, Roxanne, Jeff, Jerred, Derek, Deven, Lyndsey, Tezra, Chantel, Zaryn, Caci, Blake, Kelly and Darby; 12 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
