Beverly A. Patzoldt, beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at her home, after a very courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was born October 25, 1942, at the Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Pine City, the second of three children born to Edgar and Betty Davidson. She grew up on a dairy farm and attended Cedar Lake District #80 country school, where her mother Betty taught. She loved farm life early on, active in 4-H, showing sheep, horseback riding, milking cows and selling light bulbs for fund raisers. A very protective sister, she was known to hide a mischievous younger brother under the full skirt of her dress, when some middle schooler ruffians came looking to settle a score! After graduating from Pine City High School, she moved to Minneapolis, to work in the IDS building as a secretary. It was upon coming home for a dance at the “Hi-Lite” in Beroun, that she met “the most handsome man she had ever seen” and the love of her life, Gene Patzoldt. Gene and Bev were married January 4, 1964, in Pine City and moved to a farm east of Pine City, where they lived the entirety of their lives.
Bev often said that she “loved her life and would not change anything”. She was known for her love of farming and worked along-side Gene her entire life. The division of labor did not exist in their life together. No job was too big for them to tackle. While growing a life based on hard work and love of the land, Bev still always found time to have something in the oven, the shoes of all sorts of family and friends were often pulled up to the table for a piece of pie and a bottomless cup of coffee. Songs were sung, jingles hummed and often tunes were made up out of the blue while pulling weeds or mending a fence. Whether selling a pop and a brat at the fair, pies at the farmers market, or bailing hay on the hottest day, each task was met with the same enthusiasm.
She passed on her love of the outdoors, animals, sewing and baking to her grandkids and led by example. Bev continued to farm through this past fall and loved driving Big Blue.
Bev is survived by her daughters Pam McCormick, Polly (Craig) Dolby, Barb (Roblee Johnson) Patzoldt; son Michael (Rhonda) Patzoldt; grandchildren Mat and Pam McCormick, Jarad and Megan McCormick, Brandon and Katie McCormick, Breckan McCormick, Emma (Charlie) Dolby, Madeline Dolby, Cody Patzoldt, Nia Patzoldt, Brady Johnson, Brinn Johnson; great-grandchildren Alex, Tyler, Aiden, Arthur, Gavin McCormick; brothers Chuck (Theresa) Davidson, Richard (Margaret) Davidson; brother-in-law Arnold Patzoldt, Jr; sister-in-law Ellen Patzoldt; aunts Nancy Currie, Susan Eklund; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Betty Davidson; husband Gene; in-laws Arnold Sr. and Ella Patzoldt; brothers-in-law Robert Patzoldt, Harold Patzoldt, David Patzoldt, Dennis Patzoldt; sisters-in-law Judy Patzoldt, Dorthy Patzoldt; son-in-law Kevin McCormick; nephews Johnny Patzoldt, Travis Patzoldt; niece Bonnie Givens; great-nephew Nicholas Davidson.
