Carolyn Ann Kazda

Carolyn Ann (Shatava) Kazda entered into eternal life on Friday, April 26, 2024, one month shy of her 99th birthday. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Joseph and Bessie (Kudej) Shatava, immigrants from Bohemia who settled in Chengwatana Township. Carolyn attended Cloverhill School and graduated from Pine City High School in 1942. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in the Twin Cities after high school. In November 1945, she married Leonard Kazda; to this union five children were born. She later worked at Pine City Fuel and Pine Technical College.

Her family was her pride and joy; she loved being with them and cooking their favorite dishes. Carolyn loved flower gardening and was a member of the Pine City Garden Club for several years. She enjoyed visiting with extended family and friends and valued every card and phone call she received.

Carolyn was a faithful and active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. She was involved in CCW, Befrienders, Bible Study, usher and prayer shawl ministries. She also volunteered with the Pine City Senior Singers for over 25 years.

Carolyn is survived by children Jacquelyn (Jaci) Bush, Janet Deprimo, Kathryn Churchill, Gary Kazda; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Bessie Shatava; husband Leonard Kazda; son Charles Kazda; 10 siblings: Frances Peterson, Mary Bever, Joseph Shatava, Charles Shatava, Rose Shatava, Henry Shatava, Frank (Francis) Shatava, Agnes Matkovich, Gust (Augustine) Shatava, Mildred Johnson; sisters-in-law Mildred Kubesh and Agnes Bennett.

Monsignor Suchan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Carolyn: 10:30 AM Friday (May 3, 2024) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Pine City.  A time of visitation is planned one hour prior to Mass with rosary at 9:00 AM in the St. Anthony commons area of the church. The interment will take place in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Pine City followed by lunch in the church lower level.
