Colleen Gallus of Pine City passed away Monday, September 16, 2019 at Lakeside Health & Rehab Center in Pine City at the age of 83.
Colleen Jessie Fraser was born September 19, 1935 to George and Alleine (Jackson) Fraser in Jamestown, North Dakota. She was the first of 3 children. In 1945, at the age of 10 her father was killed while serving in the armed services. The family moved around quite a bit.
Around 1953 she met Leo Gallus on a blind date. They were married October 2, 1954 and together they had four children. Colleen was a stay at home mom until the last child started school. She was employed in the housekeeping industry until she retired in 1992. That same year Colleen and Leo moved from Maple Plain where they had lived for 30 years. They spent the summer months in Pine City and the winter months in Quartzsite, Arizona. It wasn’t until 2006 that they spent the entire year in Pine City.
In 2013, after Leo passed away she began her life of volunteering. She helped at her church; funerals, fish fry's, teaching religious classes and visiting shut-ins. Colleen coordinated volunteers for The Adult Day Break program, this program gives caregivers caring for loved ones with dementia and Alzheimer’s a much needed break. While she volunteered at A Place for You; she never missed baking a birthday cake for each staff member and she also found time to volunteer at New Horizon Thrift store. She loved being a grandmother and great grandmother. She also had two very special friends that supported her with love and kindness. Colleen kept up-to-date with family and friends by calling them on a weekly or monthly schedule.
Colleen’s beliefs were simple and she was a woman of faith. She always encouraged others to help their neighbors and community.
