David Lee Martinson

Dave Martinson of Brooklyn Center passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the age of 74.

David Lee Martinson was born on December 2, 1948 to Alvin and Mary Beth Martinson in Eau Claire, WI. After the family moved to Minnesota, he grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Washburn High School in 1967. He met his future wife Patti in 1967 and they were married on September 5, 1970. They stayed in south Minneapolis as they began to raise their family, eventually moving to Brooklyn Center in 1980. He worked largely in the restaurant business, including a long time at Broadway Pizza.

Dave loved sports and enjoyed nothing more than watching his sons participate. He coached youth football and Little League baseball in the Brooklyn Center community for many years, even after his own sons were older. That love of watching youth sports carried on as his grandchildren began to participate in youth football, basketball, hockey, and baseball. He rarely missed a game.

Dave was a mainstay in the music ministry at Lutheran Church of the Master in Brooklyn Center for 42 years. Dave sang in the choir, in small groups and quartets, many Christmas and Easter Cantatas, and enjoyed leading the liturgy in worship.

Dave poured his presence and love into his family and friends. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and he genuinely cared about everyone.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Martinson; sons Ron Martinson (Tami), Greg Martinson (Jen), and Erik Martinson (Pam); cherished grandchildren Kirk Martinson, Max Martinson, Jared Martinson (Annalise), Nathan Martinson, Josie Martinson, Jessica Martinson; sister Sue Ann Martinson; brother Bruce Martinson; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Mary Beth Martinson; brothers Forbes Martinson, Paul Martinson.

A funeral service for Dave will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 3 PM at Lutheran Church of the Master, 1200 69th Avenue North, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430. A gathering of family and friends is planned for one hour prior to the service at the church and a dessert fellowship will follow the service.
