Effie Hendrickson passed away on April 12, 2019, the family has planned a burial for Effie: Friday, May 10th, 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City.
Effie Hendrickson was born May 14, 1913 in Rock Creek, Minnesota to Charles and Mary Hendrickson.
Effie completed eight grade and passed the state exams required to attend high school but not able to go on to high school. In the early days after finishing eighth grade, Effie worked in homes of various families providing childcare, housework, and cooking in exchange for room and board and a small salary. Most of her life she lived in rural Rock Creek at the Hendrickson farm on Honey Avenue with her family. Her father passed away in 1954 and her mother in 1974. She and her two single brothers, Harold and Alvin, continued to live at the family farm. Harold and Alvin both passed away in 2000. Effie stayed on at the farm until 2006. She then lived with her sister, Laura Anderson, in Pine City until Laura passed away in 2010. Effie then continued to live Laura’s apartment in the Home of Vern and Betty Anderson until 2015 she moved to Scandia House in Pine City.
Effie trusted in Jesus Christ as her savior as a young woman and was baptized. She was a member of the East Rock Creek Baptist Church until it merged with the Rush City Baptist Church, where she also was a member. Later, she became a member at the Pine City Evangelical Free Church.
Effie’s chief occupation was homemaking. She was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables. She made flower arrangements for her own table at home as for the church and for weddings. She learned to play the piano and was the church pianist over the years as well as accompanying singers. In her spare time she did scrapbooking and embroidery. Her favorite past time playing a game or two of Scrabble with family or friends who stopped by to visit.
Effie passed away on Friday, April 12th at the Scandia House in Pine City. Her health had declined in recent months due to her age. She was amazingly strong until the end.
She is survived by her fourteen nieces and nephews: William Strand, Bob (Annette) Lindstrom, Lyle (Bev) Anderson, Dean (Ruth) Lindstrom, Pauline (Dennis) Wahlstrom, Ron (Nancy) Strand, Loren (Fay) Caneday, Carol Hendrickson, Lowell (Diane) Caneday, Vern (Betty) Anderson, Ardel (Lois) Caneday, Joyce Caneday, Darrel (Becky) Caneday, Ardyce (David) Larson.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Hendrickson and eleven siblings.
Pastor Joel Preston will officiate at funeral services for Effie: 11 AM; Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Pine City Evangelical Free Church-Lighthouse with a time of visitation for family and friends one hour prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to: Funeral and Cremation Service of Pine City ~ Swanson Chapel.
