Elizabeth Louise Hermes Pitzen

Betty Pitzen passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025 at her home on Lake Pokegama at the age of 91.

Elizabeth Louise Hermes was born September 22, 1933 to Robert and Clara (Eicher) Hermes. She was raised in the Roseville area. She was the daughter of florists and a big sister to three.

Betty was raised a devout Catholic, attending church every Sunday and Catholic schools including college. She married the love of her life, Skip Pitzen, and together they raised six children. She was a loving wife for over 65 years. She was a loving mother that shared her deep devotion of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Mother of Our Lord.

Betty spent her summers with family on Lake Pokegama. Eventually she and Skip made it their permanent home. Betty remained there after Skip’s passing five years ago.

She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Magnificent Red Hatters. She showed love and kindness to every person she ever met. Betty was full of love. She shared prayers, visits, notes, cards and kind words with so many people, all of whom will remember her with fondness.

Betty is now safely home and at peace forever. She has gone to join the Lord, Skip, her parents, her brother, and other relatives and friends who have gone before to welcome her home.

Betty is survived by her children Mary Budke of Mora, Werner “Nick” Pitzen of Moundsview, Bob Pitzen ( Karen Becht) of Pine City, Teresa (Duane) Gaulke of Brook Park, Susan (John) O’Connor of North Branch, Tom (Cheryl) Pitzen of Pine City; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; siblings Barbara Thibault of Spring Park, Bob (Molly) Hermes of St. Paul, sister-in-law Debbie Hermes of Minnetonka; many other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Clara Hermes; husband Werner "Skip" Pitzen; and brother John Hermes.

Father Thomas Galarneault will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial for Betty: 11 AM; Friday, January 24, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. A visitation from 10-11 AM with a 9:30 AM prayer service will be held in St. Anthony Commons Area at the church. The interment will take place in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Pine City.
