Gary Leslie Carlson, Pine City, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on September 27, 1945, in Hennepin County, Minnesota, to Sharratt and Mary (Burckhardt) Carlson. Gary lived a life marked by hard work, resilience, and love for his family.
Gary dedicated much of his career to the trucking industry. He worked for various companies before realizing his entrepreneurial spirit and founding Gopherland Trucking. Even after medical challenges led him to retire early from trucking, Gary’s industrious nature never waned. He stayed active by taking on odd jobs and contributing wherever he could. From working for Grindstone Laundry Service to plowing driveways during the winter months, Gary exemplified determination and a strong work ethic throughout his life.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Gary found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman who cherished time spent by the water. Visiting the casino was another pastime he enjoyed; however, nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by his family. His daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of his world, and he treasured every moment shared with them.
Gary is survived by his loving daughters: Tracey Carlson (Matt), Wendy Dudley (Mike), Dina (Tim) Krei; as well as his grandchildren: Taylor (Hannah), Kaitlyn (Matt), Mackenzie (Stevie), Michael Jr., Jacob, Erick, Stephanie, Donovan, James and Abby. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Mason, Addilynn, Josie, Axel, Alaina, Joey, and Josie. Additionally, Gary is survived by his brother Mardy Carlson; special friend, Julie Brock and children; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Erma "Jeannie"; and his brother, Allan.
Gary’s kindheartedness and gentle spirit left a mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on through the family he adored and the countless lives he touched along the way. A special thank you is extended to Julie for her unwavering support and care during Gary’s later years—a kindness that will always be remembered. May Gary’s memory bring comfort to all who loved him as they celebrate a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date.
