George Cabak passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Sandstone Health Care Center at the age of 75.
George Michael Cabak was born September 2, 1946, to George H. and Elsie (Runa) Cabak in Rush City, Minnesota. Throughout his school years he participated in many extra-curricular activities, football, Letterman’s Club, chorus, bus patrol and student council representative. In 1964, he graduated from the Hinckley High School and began his employment with Lampert Yards in Hinckley.
on January 12, 1966 he was drafted into the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and advanced infantry training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. George went overseas on June 20, 1966, and served with the 25th Infantry division of the “Wolf Hounds” in Vietnam. On January 12, 1967, he was wounded at “Operation Cedar Falls” in the Iron Triangle in Vietnam. He spent many months in hospitals at the 249th Army Hospitals in Tokyo, Japan and Fort Riley, Kansas. After his return home, George wanted to return to Lamberts to work; however due to the injuries sustained in Vietnam he was unable to continue working.
George enjoyed living in the country on the “farm” as he called it and did go deer hunting. He took great pride in keeping his home and yard in meticulous condition. In 1999, George was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and other health problems resulting from exposure to “Agent Orange” during his time served overseas in the war.
George will be remembered for his generosity to the Calvary Cemetery in Beroun in memory of his parents and also to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
George is survived by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; special friends Elmer, Anna, Mike, Amy, Ethan and Evan Doenz; many other relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents George H. and Elsie Cabak; maternal grandparents John P. and Anna Runa; paternal grandparents Mike and Anna Cabak.
Monsignor Aleksander Suchan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for George: 10:30 AM; Wednesday (9/15) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Beroun. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned for Tuesday evening from 5-7 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Beroun.
